Ramble: Why I Shoot Film and Why it is Terrifying

Image
Hello, I shoot film. Lets get that out of the way. Once upon a time I shot it because it was new and exciting, my fiancee had bought me a camera an old Halina. I researched the camera, read the manual and I was hooked. I was down the rabbit hole so to speak. As I digged deeper and deeper into my research and my practise in film photography became more pronounced I realised I was chasing in why and what I was shooting film for. One of my first serious purchases in the name of film photography was that of a Leica III from 1935 with a Russian FED 50mm f/3.5. I went out a lot with this camera and started my short-lived foray into street-photography. Slowly I started buying more cameras on whim. Nothing too serious. However in late 2015 I was diagnosed with Bi-Polar Effective Disorder and now with a better understanding of why I acted the way I did I read a book. Buddhism Plain and Simple, recommended by my fiancee's brother who is a practising Buddhist. It was an enlightening boo...

A Ramble: From Canon to Olympus and then Fuji

Hello, Today I want to talk about my transition in the equipment I use in Digital Photography and why I have done what I have done. Firstly I started in photography with a Canon EOS 600D which I bought late 2011. I got a twin lens kit with an 18-55mm and a 55-250mm lens. I then went on to buy Canon's nifty-fifty the 50mm f/1.8. My reasons for Canon where simple, I was doing a BA in Film and Television Production and at the time Canon where leading the DSLR film-making revolution. My friend owned a 60D, another a 550D, 650D and so on. Our Uni stores lent out Canon equipment and lenses to film with. However one think happened that I did not foresee. Upon my entry to University I was driven to be a writer, mainly a screenwriter and I chose my modules accordingly. However I became disillusioned by my lecturers and accidental ended up acting in front of the camera more than I was behind it. It was around this time I slowly started researching into Photography. I became hooked on...

Getting Out and Doing Something!

Hello, Today I want to speak about something that I feel is important in anyone's life. Getting out and doing something. I am a massive advocate for hobbies. I believe everyone should have a hobby, something outside of life and work. Something they can sink their teeth into, lose themselves in. For me that hobby is Photography. I live and breath photography. My job is a camera sales person and I am studying an MA in Photography. I do however have a confession to make. I have a habit of procrastinating. By this I mean sitting at home playing video-games as they day goes by. Though I do believe that every once and a while you need a day-off. Just do naff all and relax. This was becoming far too common for me. So I decided to do something about it. I had a free day from work so I decided to do something with that free time. Recently I had bought a Rolleiflex, 75mm f/3.5 in grey. I had some XP2 120 film loaded into it. So I hopped onto the train into Preston City near where I live. In ...
